Success in campaigning for Healthy Homes Standards deadline

After months of lobbying the Associate Minister and officials for an extension to the 1 July Healthy Homes deadline, REINZ is delighted to share the news with RPM members that the Minister has now confirmed that the Compliance Statement deadline has been pushed out until 1 December 2020.

Initially REINZ had asked for a two-month extension as we knew how keen the Government was to keep the Healthy Homes timeline on track, so to be granted a five-month extension is fantastic news.

However, we expect this now means that there will be little leeway when it comes to meeting the new deadline (1 December), so our advice to property managers would be to work with your landlords and tenants to have an inspection booked at the earliest convenience – obviously still taking COVID-19 safety and physical distancing requirements into account.

Bindi Norwell, Chief Executive at REINZ says: “We are delighted that following months of lobbying with the Associate Minister of Housing and his officials, that the feedback provided on behalf of the property management profession has been taken on board.

“There were significant concerns that the Compliance Statement template wasn’t going to be available in time due to the high workload the Government has been placed under as a result of COVID-19, but also that suitably experienced individual or qualified tradespeople who were expected to complete the Compliance Statements were unable to complete the high number of inspections still required post-lockdown,” she concludes.
